ILO supervisory system of application of Labour Standards

Redesign of the application to manage legal comments created by ILO legal experts on the application of conventions

  • Client: International Labour Organization (ILO, UN Agency), Geneva
  • Branch: INFOTEC + NORMES Units
  • Year: 2022 to 2023

The need

In the context of the supervisory system, the legal experts of the ILO produce 2.000 comments per year in three languages. The application for managing legal comments had been implemented by an English company, but it did not work correctly.
We were asked to understand where the problem was and find solutions.

Job decription

  • The main problem depended on the bad formatting of the legal documents, on which the automatic transformation of the single document into various types of compilation, up to an official report at the end of the supervision process (1000 pages) and also the annual publication of 2000 comments on the NORMLEX website depended.
  • We reviewed the entire process behind creating the document, then improved it. We have recreated a new set of templates for each document type, simplifying as much as possible the formatting, and providing instructions for use to lawyers.
  • A similar exercise has been carried on with other 2 actors participating in the production chain after the creation of the single comment and working on compilations, report and web publishing.
  • We have also reimplemented several server-side applications capable of creating and managing compilations, official reports and publishing individual comments on the web.
